WINGER ROCKS VINYL!
Thirty years after their debut in 1988, Winger took the stage at Vinyl inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The venue was packed from wall to wall and it was quite evident that Winger still has some fans that were eager to see them perform.
I must admit, I was skeptical at first, but once I heard them tear into “Easy Come, Easy Go” I knew I was going to be in for a great show.
Founding members Kip Winger ( Bass guitar & vocals ) Reb Beach ( lead guitar ) were certainly not showing any signs of being “has been” rock stars as they rolled thru their set playing songs from the past and even some new songs. The crowd responded with enthusiasm when they heard new songs and I must say I was impressed. The highlight of the night for me was when they played “Rainbow in the Rose”. Kip sounded just as good as if not better than he did back in the 80’s & 90’s. His vocal range is still very much intact and Kip could easily hold his own with anyone now days.
Wingers most recent work was the 2014 release, Better Days Comin’, although, if I remember correctly, I believe Kip had mentioned that they either had just got out of the studio or were getting ready to go into the studio. I for one am curious to hear some more new material.
As I said, I came to the show skeptical, but left the show with a renewed appreciation for Winger!! If you’re a fan or even if you’re afraid to admit it, please take my advice and go check out Wingers live show. I’m willing to admit that not only was I guilty of contempt prior to investigation, but I also walked away a fan.
