I heard Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys was going to be making an appearance at the Fountaine Bleau and that was good enough for me! I’m down! I was lucky enough to snag a media pass for the November 29th event from the PR firm and I was ready!
The fans and skaters were lined up before the doors opened at 5pm anxious to get inside. When I got inside I was escorted to the media section and was told there would be food and drinks coming. Cool!
But I was on the move. There seemed to be some confusion among the crowd where the exact place was that Nick Carter would be cutting the ribbon for the Grand Opening for the Ice Rink. The crowd was told it was by the Christmas tree and then they were told it was where stanchions were set up and then everybody rushed over in a panic to the stanchions. My daughter was with me so she wanted to be up front. I then went back and joined the rest of the media in the VIP area. Hershey Bars with graham crackers and marshmallows were waiting to be toasted were calling my name!
My buddy John Kats from the Review Journal joined the VIP section and it is always good catching up with him! I saw John go over and talk to a blonde gorgeous guy and I have never seen Nick Carter in person so I didn’t even recognize him! I introduced myself to Nick and asked for a photo for my social media and he was really sweet!

I then went back over to where the crowd was at the entrance to the Ice Rink. My daughter held her spot up front and as I stood there I couldn’t help but crack up over this lady beside us. She had the biggest mouth and was reprimanding the staff about the confusion of having to move across the facility to be where Nick would be. She said she had a bum leg and was mad they were not giving her a chair, and someone spilled hot chocolate and she said they should make a lawsuit and just never stopped
complaining. She was obsessed with Nick Carter and it was clear she was not going to let anyone get closer to him than her.” I just love that man!” she kept saying. I had to turn away because I was laughing so hard at this crazy lady.

But soon Nick came walking over to the Ice Rink to the cheers of the fans. He confessed he had never done a ribbon cutting before: “I think this might be the first time I’ve ever cut a ribbon before. And I couldn’t be more excited to do it right here at the Fountaine Bleau!” But his first time didn’t matter. He could have come over and recited the Gettysburg address and everyone would have been riveted! With his movie star looks and charisma it was a pleasure to watch this talented man struggle a little bit trying to get the scissors on the ribbon just right to cut it. He gave away 2 tickets to the Backstreet Boys and did a couple selfies with the crowd. And everyone was happy…almost – except for the talkative crazy lady who was still loudly talking.
I left right away and headed to the monorail to the T-Mobile Arena to watch the Golden Knights with my daughter. What a great night and experience to open what looked like a magnificent Ice Skating Rink!
And then the excitement continued on Monday December 1st with Vegas Golden Knights Captain Mark Stone! The Grinch, Santa Claus and the festivities were in season as Mark Stone flipped the switch on the Oasis Ice Rink Christmas tree!
Be sure and head on over to the Oasis Ice Rink at the Fountaine Bleau! Entry is free to the public and parking is free for Vegas residents! It is open from 5pm to 11pm and they are also doing holiday movie nights through December!
Many thanks to Taylor Pickle and the great Fountaine Bleau PR firm for including me in this great event! I look forward to covering many more events at the Fountaine Bleau Las Vegas!
